Catcher Deacon McGuire had 4 hits and 4 RBI and Win Mercer was able to finish
what he started and was credited with a complete game as the Washington
Senators clobbered the outmatched Louisville Colonels, 11 to 1.
The home town fans were very appreciative of the fine hitting performance
provided by McGuire. He slapped a base-hit which plated a run in the 1st
inning, hit a single in the 3rd inning, rifled a three-run blast in the 6th
inning and stroked a one-base hit in the 8th inning. Both teams totaled 12
hits on the afternoon.
The victory was credited to Mercer(12-15) who went the distance, allowing 1
run. Bert Cunningham(10-11) was the loser. He got hit pretty hard, allowing
12 hits and 3 walks in 8 innings.
