Dick Rudolph allowed George Stallings to rest his bullpen, tossing a complete
game as the Boston Braves bested the Philadelphia Phillies 15 to 9 at Baker
Bowl.
Boston had the winning rally in the top of the 9th inning scoring 6 runners on
4 hits. The key offensive moment was provided by Possum Whitted who quieted
the crowd when he slapped a base-hit scoring two baserunners. Boston kept
the scorekeepers busy in the 1st inning when they had 4 runs on 4 hits and
the 9th inning which saw them score 6 runs on 4 hits. Boston simply wore out
the Philadelphia pitching staff, scoring in 6 different innings.
Rudolph(15-10) was the winner allowing 9 runs for the game. The loss was
charged to Joe Oeschger(2-7) in relief. He got hit hard, allowing 11 hits
and 4 walks in 4 and 1/3 innings.
