Pittsburgh erupted with the game winning runs in the top of the 9th inning scoring 3 runs using 4 hits. After an out was recorded, Bobby Thomson got things rolling when he tripled. Serena next to the plate and he lined a one-base hit knocking in a run. Mickey Vernon then doubled. Ted Lepcio followed and he doubled as another two runners scored. Black pitched a perfect ninth to earn his 6th save. Dutch Leonard(4-3) allowed no runs in 1 inning, and picked up the victory. Walt Masterson(2-5) ended up with the loss in relief. He was unable to retire a batter giving up 4 hits and no walks. 'The only way this one could have been better', said Leonard, 'was if we had played it at home.'
