Joe Black closed the door on Boston-AL and Bill Serena had 2 base hits and 2
RBI as the Pittsburgh Pirates staged a dramatic comeback over the Boston-AL
Red Sox by a score of 4 to 2 at Fenway Park.

Pittsburgh erupted with the game winning runs in the top of the 9th inning
scoring 3 runs using 4 hits. After an out was recorded, Bobby Thomson got
things rolling when he tripled. Serena next to the plate and he lined a
one-base hit knocking in a run. Mickey Vernon then doubled. Ted Lepcio
followed and he doubled as another two runners scored. Black pitched a
perfect ninth to earn his 6th save.

Dutch Leonard(4-3) allowed no runs in 1 inning, and picked up the victory.
Walt Masterson(2-5) ended up with the loss in relief. He was unable to
retire a batter giving up 4 hits and no walks.

'The only way this one could have been better', said Leonard, 'was if we had
played it at home.'
