Monte Irvin had 5 hits as the incredible Pittsburgh Pirates outscored the
reeling Washington Nationals 10 to 2.

Pittsburgh promptly took the lead in their half of the first as they scored 6
runs on 6 base hits.  That early run support was enough for Eddie Lopat(12-8)
and Pittsburgh.  Pittsburgh had 15 hits overall, while Washington had 8.

Lopat got relief help from Ned Garver who gained credit for his 2nd save.
Johnny Podres(4-6) was the loser.  He got hit hard, allowing 14 hits and 5
walks in 5 innings.
