WEB GEMS- Bot 1st: George Gore robbed Patrick Gillespie of an extra base hit.

First baseman Cap Anson rocketed 2 homeruns and had 4 RBI and Joe Brown
allowed Anson to rest his bullpen, tossing a complete game as the Chicago
White Stockings defeated the New York Gothams by the score of 11 to 4 at Polo
Grounds.

Anson was unconscious all day. The New York fans hated to see him approaching
the batter's box as he just kept delivering base hits! He blasted a two-run
home run in the 1st inning, doubled resulting in a run in the 3rd inning and
hit a bases-empty home run in the 4th inning. Chicago had 12 hits for the
afternoon.

Brown(1-2) allowed 4 runs on the game. Ed Bagley(10-21) was charged with the
loss. He got hit pretty hard, allowing 12 hits and 5 walks in 9 innings.

'They made a couple of mistakes and I took full advantage,' Anson said 'next
time I'm sure they'll pitch me tougher.'
