Left fielder Mike Smith had 3 base hits and 5 RBI as the Pittsburg Pirates
clobbered the outmatched Philadelphia Phillies, 18 to 4.

Smith was a seemingly constant irritant to the hometown fans as he provided
much of the offense for the visitors. He slapped a single in the 1st inning,
doubled plating two runs in the 6th inning and lashed a one-base hit bringing
in two baserunners in the 8th inning. Pittsburg provided plenty of action in
the 6th inning which saw them plate 5 runs on 5 hits and the 8th inning with
5 runs on 5 hits. Pittsburg dominated offensively as they scored in 6
different innings.

The win was credited to Frank Killen(27-15) who went 8 and 2/3 innings
allowing 4 runs. The loss was charged to Kid Carsey(8-12). He got hammered,
allowing 17 hits and 7 walks in 7 and 2/3 innings.
