Deacon Phillippe had a strong outing as the Detroit Tigers defeated the St.
Louis-AL Browns in 12 innings by the score of 2 to 1 at Bennett Park.
The score was knotted at 1 after nine innings. Detroit was victorious in the
12th inning. After an out was recorded, Matty McIntyre ripped a one-base
hit. Ed Konetchy stepped up next and he laced a base-hit. Konetchy took
second on the throw. Fred Beck then ripped a single resulting in a mighty
exciting win for Detroit and the 1,546 home town fans in attendance. Detroit
finished with just 6 hits in the victory.
Phillippe(6-9) lasted until the end allowing 1 run for the win. Bill
Foxen(7-8) was the losing pitcher in relief. He pitched 6 and 1/3 innings
giving up only 3 hits and 1 walk.
'Phillippe took our guys to school' Tim Singer said. 'Too bad he doesn't pitch
for us - it would make my job a whole lot easier!'
