Christy Mathewson pitched 9 strong innings at Navin Field as the Brooklyn
Dodgers beat the pitiful Detroit Tigers 2 to 1.

Brooklyn claimed the early lead in the first inning scoring a single run
utilizing 2 base hits. Detroit threatened in the 9th but Brooklyn was able
to put down the rally.

Mathewson(20-12) finished the game allowing 1 run in the victory. Pat
Ragan(7-14) took the loss. Jim Murphy was reflective after the loss, 'We
should have won this one, we just made one too many mistakes. Son-of-a-gun,
that added a couple more white hairs on this noggin of mine.'
