6,038 fans watched an exciting game at Forbes Field. The Pittsburgh Pirates
topped the hopeless Philadelphia Phillies by the slimmest of margins, 9 to
8.

Pittsburgh had 4 runs cross the plate in the bottom of the 6th inning when
they came up with 4 base hits. The key offensive moment was provided by Hoot
Evers who electrified Forbes Field when he tripled bringing in two
baserunners. Philadelphia tried unsuccessfully to come back in the 9th.

The win was credited to Allie Reynolds(8-17) who went 7 innings allowing 5
runs. Reynolds got help from Vic Lombardi who earned his 20th save. Curt
Simmons(4-16) was tagged with the loss. He struggled with his control
issuing 10 walks in 5 and 1/3 innings.
