The Washington Nationals were finally were able to get back on the winner's
track and nipped the Pittsburgh Pirates 3 to 2 at Griffith Stadium in a hard
fought contest.

Warren Spahn(14-9) pitched well for Washington in their victory.  He went 7
and 1/3 innings allowing 7 hits and 2 walks.  Spahn whiffed an impressive
total of 8 Pittsburgh batters.  Pittsburgh made it exciting in the 9th, but
they were unable to push the needed runs across.  

Spahn got help from Murry Dickson who was credited with his 2nd save.  Billy
Pierce(12-12) took the loss.  He was stingy with the baserunners, allowing
just 3 hits and 1 walk in 6 innings.
