Al Spalding was able to finish what he started and was credited with a
complete game and second baseman Ross Barnes had 2 base hits and 4 RBI as the
Boston Red Stockings ballclub embarrassed the ice-cold Washington Nationals
by the count of 26 to 7.
The Boston fans enjoyed the offense provided by Barnes. He stroked a single
bringing in a run in the 2nd inning and doubled plating a run in the 6th
inning. Boston bats were very productive in the 3rd inning with 7 runs on 3
hits and the 4th inning which saw them plate 8 runs on 6 hits. Boston kept
the pressure on throughout the contest as they scored in 6 different innings.
Spalding(21-7) got the victory, allowing 7 runs for the game. John
Greason(0-5) was given the loss. Boston knocked him around a bit, as he gave
up 26 runs in 8 innings.
This win by Boston continues their recent hot streak. In their last ten
