Terry Larkin tossed a complete game as the Chicago White Stockings defeated
the Providence Grays(P) by a score of 8 to 5 at Lake Front Park.

Chicago bats came alive with a big 8th inning as they creamed Providence
blasting them with 7 runs on 6 hits.  The crucial at-bat was provided by Phil
Powers who made the crowd happy when he tripled plating two runs.  Providence
tried unsuccessfully to come back in the 9th.  

The winning pitcher was Larkin(32-15) who allowed 5 runs for the game. Monte
Ward(15-11) was charged with the loss.  He was pinned with the loss despite
not allowing an earned run in his 8 innings of work.
