Bill Stemmyer pitched a 3 hitter as the Boston Beaneaters defeated the St.
Louis Maroons 4 to 1 at Union Park.

Stemmyer(19-10) escaped virtually unscathed against the St. Louis hitters. He
was stingy on the mound, allowing just 3 hits and 1 walk in 9 innings.
Boston rapped out 8 hits for the afternoon.

John Kirby(6-21) absorbed the loss. He surrendered 8 hits and 5 walks in 9
innings. When questioned about his counterpart after the game, Kirby was
lavish in his praise, 'It was obvious very early on that we were going to be
in for a long night. Stemmyer brought his 'A' game with him - he had good
stuff and was able to spot it perfectly. He probably only made one or two
bad pitches the entire game!
