Preacher Roe shutout Washington while allowing the Cincinnati bullpen a
day-off and Enos Slaughter had 2 base hits and 2 RBI at Crosley Field where
the Cincinnati Reds beat the Washington Nationals 6 to 0.

Roe(14-11) looked very much in control throughout the night.  He was stingy on
the mound, allowing just 6 hits and 2 walks in 9 innings.  Cincinnati banged
out 9 hits on the night.  

Don Newcombe(12-14) took the loss.  He gave up 6 runs and 8 hits in 7 and 1/3
innings.
