Henry Porter allowed Charlie Byrne to rest his bullpen, tossing a complete
game as the Brooklyn Grays outscored the New York Metropolitans 11 to 7.

New York was unable to claim the lead after Brooklyn went ahead in the top of
the 5th inning with 3 runs using 2 hits. Porter led off and keyed the rally
when he reached on an error. George Pinkney stepped up next and he reached
on an error. Bill McClellan then worked the squeeze play to perfection
scoring a run. Ed Swartwood followed next and he drew a walk. Jack Lynch
then fired a sharp breaking ball that appeared to cross-up the catcher. In
any event, it got by him and was ruled a passed ball scoring one more run.
One out later, Adonis Terry came to bat and doubled scoring the final run of
the inning. Brooklyn had 14 hits for the afternoon.

Porter(18-22) allowed 7 runs on the game. Lynch(14-16) absorbed the loss. He
was knocked around, surrendering 11 runs in 9 innings.
