Vic Willis tossed a complete game and left fielder Duff Cooley had 2 base hits
and 3 RBI as the Boston Beaneaters defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates by the
score of 13 to 7 at South End Grounds.

Boston claimed the early lead in the first inning when they tallied 4 runs on
4 hits.  The highlight belonged to Pat Carney who brought the crowd to their
feet when he doubled bringing in two baserunners.  Boston and Pittsburgh each
finished the afternoon with 11 hits.  

Willis(21-15) picked up the complete game victory, allowing 7 runs. Deacon
Phillippe(17-9) was the loser.  He was knocked around by Boston, allowing 11
hits and 7 walks in 8 innings.  

With this win, Boston has a 60-55 record. They have been 6-4 lately.  With the
loss, the Pittsburgh ballclub's record is 81-39.
