1,944 fans were treated to a fine game at American League Park as only one run
separated the combatants at game's end. The Boston-AL Red Sox won by the
slimmest of margins, 6 to 5.
Boston-AL drew first blood jumping out to an early lead in the first inning
when they tallied 4 runs on 2 hits. The crucial at-bat was provided by Billy
Sullivan who deflated the mood of the partisan fans when he delivered a
one-base hit scoring two baserunners. Washington made it exciting in the
9th, but they were unable to push the needed runs across.
The win was credited to Bob Harmon(5-8) who went 5 innings allowing 4 runs.
Walter Johnson earned the save, his 9th. Smoky Joe Wood(19-9) took the loss.
He surrendered 6 runs and 5 hits in 9 innings.
'I was a little good, a little bad and a little ugly.' said Harmon, 'I was
just giving us a chance to win.'
