Richie Ashburn collected 2 extra-base hits as the New York Yankees defeated
the Pittsburgh Pirates in 10 innings by a score of 8 to 5 at Forbes
Field.

The game was deadlocked at 5 after nine full innings.  New York won the hard
fought contest in the 10th inning.  Billy Cox started the scoring when he
smashed a solo-shot out of the park.  After an out was recorded, Stan Rojek
came up and he drew a walk.  Lloyd Hittle got his turn next, but he was a
strikeout victim.  Ashburn followed next and he tripled driving in another
run.  Ted Kluszewski came up to bat and lashed a single scoring the final run
of the inning.  Pittsburgh was out-hit by New York, 13 hits to 9.

Hittle(2-1) picked up the victory, allowing no runs in 2 innings. Eddie
Erautt(5-7) suffered the loss in relief.  He allowed 3 hits and 1 walk in 1
inning.
