Walter Johnson struck out 10 batters and Johnny Bates had 2 base hits and 2
RBI as the Boston-AL Red Sox beat the Philadelphia-AL Athletics by a score of
4 to 3.

Johnson(10-14) pitched well for Boston-AL in their victory. He went 8 and 2/3
innings allowing 9 hits and 4 walks. Philadelphia-AL had a chance in the 9th
but they came up short.

Johnson got relief help from Bill Dinneen who gained credit for his 3rd save.
Cy Young(18-15) was the loser. He pitched 8 innings and surrendered 10 hits
and 1 walk.

The Boston-AL fans were thrilled by the performance put forth by Johnson, but
it was clearly his strikeouts that they enjoyed most. 'When he reached 10
strikeouts the fans showed him their appreciation with a loud cheer.' Dale
Van Leven said following the game.
