Second baseman Amby McConnell had 2 base hits and 4 RBI as the Boston Red Sox
defeated the New York Highlanders by the score of 5 to 4 at Huntington Ave
Grnds.

Eddie Cicotte(9-8) pitched well enough to earn the win. He surrendered 13
hits and 6 walks in 8 innings. New York threatened in the 9th but their
rally came up short.

Cicotte got relief help from William Matthews who gained credit for his 1st
save. Rube Manning(10-11) was the loser. He was knocked around by Boston,
allowing 15 hits and 2 walks in 8 innings.

'I always am most impressed when a pitcher finds a way to win even without his
best stuff,' Fred Lake said after the game. 'Cicotte did not have command of
his pitches most of the afternoon, but he proved he really knew how to
pitch!'
