WEB GEMS- Top 7th: Clyde Milan robbed Pat Newnam of a Homerun!

In a thriller the Washington Nationals staged a dramatic comeback then held on
to win over the St. Louis-AL Browns by a score of 5 to 4 at Sportsman'S
Park.

Washington came up with the deciding runs in the top of the 9th inning when
they scored 5 runs on 5 hits. The big moment was provided by George Stone
who silenced the crowd when he tripled which was good for two runs.
Washington rapped out 7 hits for the afternoon.

Smoky Joe Wood(13-12) allowed 4 runs in 8 innings, and picked up the victory.
Wood got help from Cliff Curtis who earned his 1st save. Bill Burns(0-1) was
charged with the loss in relief.

Gordon Renaud was feeling mighty fine as he answered questions in his office
after the game, 'Now that was one fine ending! Did you see how the crowd just
sat there in silence after the winning run scored? Here we are celebrating
wildly, and the stadium is cloaked in virtual silence. Weird. but GREAT!'
