WEB GEMS- Top 8th: Vin Campbell robbed Joe Tinker of an extra base hit.

Left fielder Al Wickland had 2 base hits and 3 RBI and Erv Lange had a
complete game at Greenlawn Park where the blistering-hot Chicago ballclub
beat the struggling Indianapolis Hoosiers in 14 innings 10 to 8.

The score was knotted at 8 after nine innings. Finally, Chicago prevailed in
the 14th inning. Lange got things going when he laced a base-knock. After
an out was recorded, Rollie Zeider came to bat and laced a base-hit. Art
Wilson then reached on an error scoring a run. Dutch Zwilling was up next
and he reached on an error scoring the final run of the inning. Indianapolis
had 17 hits in the game while Chicago had 14, but Chicago had the more timely
hits.

Lange(12-4), allowing 8 runs for the game, picked up the victory. Frank
Harter(2-2) was the losing pitcher in relief. He was a hard-luck loser,
pitching 3 innings and not allowing an earned run.

Chicago continued their winnings ways improving their record to 76-48. They
are 8-2 in their last ten games. Bill Phillips was unhappy with his club's
recent performance. 'We can't keep losing games' he said. 'It gets to be
embarrassing after a while.'
