In a tight game it was the St. Louis Cardinals 9, the woeful Philadelphia
Phillies 7 at Sportsman's Park.

St. Louis jumped out to the early lead in the first inning when they came up
with 5 runs on 3 hits. The big moment was provided by Bob Scheffing who made
the crowd come alive when he launched a three-run homer. Philadelphia
threatened in the 9th but St. Louis was able to put down the rally.

The victory went to Larry Jansen(12-17) who went 5 and 1/3 innings, allowing 3
runs. Bubba Harris gained credit for his 33rd save. The losing pitcher was
Murry Dickson(8-12). St. Louis knocked him around a bit, as he gave up 7
runs in 4 innings.
