Dale Mitchell collected 2 extra-base hits and had 3 RBI as the Pittsburgh
Pirates outscored the New York Yankees in 11 innings 8 to 7.

Both teams had scored 6 runs after nine full innings.  Pittsburgh won the game
in the 11th inning.  Luke Appling led off and got things going when he drew a
walk.  Monte Irvin followed and he reached on an error.  Red Schoendienst
then laid down a sacrifice bunt.  One out later, Mitchell stepped in and he
doubled resulting in an exciting win for Pittsburgh and a wild post-game
celebration by the home town fans.  Pittsburgh totaled 11 hits on the
afternoon.  

The win was credited to Eddie Erautt(6-7) who went 1 inning allowing 1 run.
Lloyd Hittle(2-2) was the losing pitcher in relief.  It was a tough loss for
him as he did not allow an earned run in his 4 innings of work.
