In a tight game it was the Boston Red Sox 4, the Pittsburgh Pirates 2 at
Fenway Park.

Boston plated all the runs they needed in the 4th inning as they scored 4 runs
on 4 base hits.  The biggest moment was provided by Eddie Waitkus who
elicited a roar from the hometown fans when he lofted a three-run 'big-fly'.
Boston won despite being out-hit by Pittsburgh 11 hits to 8.  

Fred Hutchinson(16-5) was the winner allowing 2 runs in 5 innings. Nels Potter
gained credit for his 23rd save.  Allie Reynolds(7-16) was charged with the
loss.  

Wth the win Boston now has a record of a league leading 89-45.  With this
loss, Pittsburgh has a 3-7 record of late, 48-86 overall.
