Ted Kluszewski smacked 2 triples and had 3 RBI as the Cincinnati Reds staged a
dramatic comeback over the Boston-AL Red Sox by a score of 5 to 4 at Crosley
Field.
Cincinnati had the game winning rally in the bottom of the 9th inning scoring
4 runners on 4 hits. The crucial at-bat was provided by Kluszewski who
elicited a roar from the hometown fans when he tripled clearing all three
ducks off the pond. Cincinnati had 11 hits for the afternoon.
Preacher Roe(3-4) picked up the victory, allowing 1 run in 2 innings. Hoyt
Wilhelm(6-5) was given the loss in relief. He gave up 2 runs and 1 hit
without retiring a batter.
Roe and Kluszewski were really whooping it up in the clubhouse after the great
come from behind victory. As Rob Hickok noted, 'A win like this one can do
wonders for a team's attitude.' Everyone shares in the joy - the fans, the
players - even you guys - it's better than winning by a dozen runs!'
