Al Spalding pitched a complete game and right fielder Dave Birdsall smacked 3
triples and had 2 RBI as the Boston Red Stockings man-handled the
Philadelphia Athletics - the final score was 14 to 4.
Birdsall provided much of the offense. He tripled resulting in a run in the
1st inning, tripled in the 5th inning and tripled which scored a run in the
6th inning. Boston simply wore out the Philadelphia pitching staff, scoring
