Rebel Oakes had 2 base hits as the Detroit Tigers outscored the Washington
Nationals in 12 innings 5 to 4.

Both teams were tied at 4 runs apiece after nine innings.  Detroit won the
game in the 12th inning.  Zack Wheat slapped a single.  Ed Konetchy came to
the plate and reached on an error.  After an out was recorded, Hooks Wiltse
then unleashed a wild pitch making Detroit the victors to the delight of the
home town faithful.  Washington had 16 hits in the game while Detroit had 12,
but Detroit had the more timely hits.  

Ed Lafitte(5-10) allowed no runs in 2 innings, and picked up the victory. The
loss was charged to Wiltse(4-10) in relief.  It was a tough loss for him as
he did not allow an earned run in his 3 and 2/3 innings of work.  

Wth the win Detroit now has a record of 38-96.  With the loss Washington now
has a record of 57-77.
