Yogi Berra smacked 2 homeruns and had 6 RBI as the Pittsburgh Pirates rallied
impressively to win in dramatic style over Boston Red Sox, 11 to 10.

Berra propelled Pittsburgh to victory. He lost the ball over the fence for
three runs in the 5th inning, lifted one out of the park for a two run home
run in the 7th inning and laced a one-base hit bringing in a run in the 9th
inning. Boston was not lacking for run support as they scored in 6 separate
innings, yet victory eluded them as they seemed to forget that pitching is
also needed to win ballgames.

Billy Pierce(1-1) went 5 innings allowing 4 runs for the victory. Pierce was
helped out by Vic Lombardi who recorded his 17th save. Ralph Branca(15-10)
was hit with the loss. He served up 3 homeruns in his 6 innings.

'I struggled a bit out there today,' Pierce said, 'but I toughed it out and we
got the win.'
