Top 9th: Don Mueller robbed Carl Furillo of an extra base hit.

Center fielder Bobby Thomson had 2 base hits and 4 RBI as the Pittsburgh
Pirates bested the Chicago-NL Cubs 10 to 8 at Forbes Field.

Pittsburgh jumped on top of Chicago-NL in the 7th inning scoring 3 runs on 4
base hits. Bill Renna led off and started the attack as he laced a single.
Don Mueller came to the plate and doubled. After an out was recorded, Mickey
Vernon was walked intentionally to load the bases. Thomson stepped in and he
stroked a single driving in two more baserunners. Yogi Berra stepped into
the box and delivered a base-hit scoring the final run of the inning.
Chicago-NL threatened in the 9th but their rally came up short.

The win was credited to Frank Smith(4-1) who went 1 inning allowing no runs.
Gene Bearden earned the save, his 1st. Robin Roberts(17-10) was tagged with
the loss. He was unable to control the Pittsburgh offense and allowed 12
hits and 2 walks in 7 innings.
