The Cincinnati Reds defeated the hopeless Washington Nationals by a score of 4
to 1 at Griffith Stadium.

Cincinnati drew first blood jumping out to an early lead in the first inning
when they scored 2 runs on 1 hit. That early run support was all that Bob
Porterfield(17-6) required. Cincinnati rapped out 8 hits for the afternoon.

Ernie Johnson gained credit for his 31st save. The loss was charged to Warren
Spahn(5-12). He surrendered 8 hits and 3 walks in 9 innings.
