Jimmy Ryan slammed 2 homeruns and had 3 RBI and Mark Baldwin allowed Cap Anson
to rest his bullpen, tossing a complete game as the strong Chicago White
Stockings beat the Indianapolis Hoosiers by a score of 14 to 5.

Ryan really 'lit it up' for Chicago. He doubled in the 1st inning, cleared
the fences for a two-run home run in the 3rd inning, doubled in the 6th
inning and hit a bases-empty home run in the 7th inning. Chicago had 17 hits
for the afternoon.

The victory was credited to Baldwin(22-11) who went the distance, allowing 5
runs. Doc Leitner(3-4) was the losing pitcher. He was touched for 17 hits
and 7 walks in 8 innings.

'I've spent a lot of time in the cage and made some adjustments and they've
paid off,' Ryan said. 'I just take the same approach up there. I don't
overanalyze it. I go up there, see the ball and try to put a good swing on
it.'
