WEB GEMS- Top 1st: Marty Bergen blocked the plate, saving a run!

Second baseman Bobby Lowe hit a homerun and had 4 RBI and Vic Willis tossed a
complete game at South End Grounds as the Boston Beaneaters pulled off a
dramatic comeback beating the St. Louis Perfectos by the count of 6 to
5.

Boston scored the decisive runs in a big 9th inning plating 3 runs on 4 base
hits. Billy Hamilton opened up the inning nicely when he drew a walk. Chick
Stahl next to the plate and he tripled knocking in a run. Fred Tenney then
delivered a one-base hit driving in another run. After an out was recorded,
Hugh Duffy came up and he drew a walk. Charlie Frisbee stepped into the box
and laced a base-knock to load the bases. After another out, Lowe came to
the plate and stroked a single giving Boston the win much to the delight of
the home town crowd. Boston had 12 hits for the afternoon.

Willis(23-7) got the victory, allowing 5 runs for the game. Jack Powell(22-16)
was the losing pitcher. 'That was exciting!,' Lowe said. 'I would have paid
money to watch this one.'
