Gus Thompson had a complete game at Exposition Park where the Pittsburgh
Pirates beat the awful Philadelphia Phillies 8 to 4.

Thompson(2-0) pitched a solid game.  He went 9 innings surrendering 15 hits
and 4 walks lowering his ERA from 1.93 to 1.47.  Pittsburgh finished with 14
hits in the victory.  

Fred Mitchell(7-17) was charged with the loss.  He was knocked around by
Pittsburgh, allowing 14 hits and 6 walks in 8 innings.  Wth the win
Pittsburgh now has a record of 79-46.  With the loss Philadelphia now has a
record of 46-72.
