In a dramatic ending at Huntington Ave Grnds the Boston-AL Red Sox won in
their last at-bat beating the Detroit Tigers by the count of 10 to 9.
The deciding run was scored by Boston-AL in the 9th. Shoeless Joe Jackson
delivered a base-hit. Newt Hunter was next and he laid down a sacrifice
bunt. Johnny Bates then was walked intentionally. One out later, George
Gibson came up and he banged out a single giving Boston-AL the win as 2,052
happy fans joyfully celebrated. Detroit out-hit Boston-AL 16 to 12, but
Boston-AL ended up with more runs.
Fred Olmstead(3-3) allowed 2 runs in 3 innings, and picked up the victory. Ed
Lafitte(5-12) absorbed the loss in relief. He surrendered 1 run and 2 hits
in 2/3 of an inning.
