Staley was in a groove all day. The Philadelphia fans hated to see him approaching the batter's box. He quieted the crowd by clouting a Grand Slam in the 2nd inning, smashed a two-run homer in the 5th inning and doubled plating all three baserunners in the 6th inning. Cleveland finished with 10 hits in the victory. Staley(1-0) got the victory, allowing 3 runs for the game. Murry Dickson(8-14) was the loser. He was knocked around, surrendering 9 runs in 6 and 1/3 innings. Staley said, 'It was just all timing. I had pretty good rhythm at the plate today. You've got to take advantage of mistakes when you can. A couple pitches were definitely up a little bit - right in my zone.'
