The Boston-AL Red Sox bested the Pittsburgh Pirates by a 5 to 2 score at
Forbes Field.

Boston-AL scored 3 runs in the 3rd inning with the help of 4 hits. Ted Beard
started the inning off right when he laced a base-knock. After an out was
recorded, Max Lanier came up and he singled. George Kell then lined a
base-hit knocking in a run. Jerry Coleman followed and he banged out a
single driving in another run. Sherry Robertson stepped into the box and
would hit into a force play scoring the final run of the inning. That early
scoring held up. Tom Ferrick relieved and was untouched by Pittsburgh as he
recorded the save, his 14th.

Lanier(9-12) picked up the victory, allowing 2 runs in 6 innings. Billy
Pierce(8-15) took the loss. He pitched 7 innings and surrendered 7 hits and
2 walks.
