In a one-sided affair the Philadelphia-AL Athletics batters pounded the
Washington Nationals pitchers for 15 runs while Johnny Schmitz(6-7), with
relief help from Bob Lemon, surrendered 3 runs to Washington.
Jim Piersall had a good day at the plate. He launched a Grand Slam homerun in
the 2nd inning, tripled in the 4th inning and ripped a one-base hit in the
7th inning. Philadelphia-AL provided plenty of action in the 2nd inning with
7 runs on 5 hits and the 8th inning when they had 4 runs on 4 hits.
Philadelphia-AL had 15 hits for the game and Washington had 6.
Johnny Podres(4-7) took the loss. He served up 3 homeruns in his 5 and 1/3
innings.
