One run was the difference at Columbia Park as the Philadelphia-AL Athletics
defeated the Cincinnati Reds 4 to 3.
Philadelphia-AL erupted with the game winning runs in the 8th inning plating 3
runs on 3 hits. After an out was recorded, Al Bridwell keyed the rally when
he drew a walk. Matty McIntyre stepped up next and he singled. Charlie
Hemphill then stroked a one-base hit to load the bases. Mike Mowrey followed
next and he tripled clearing all three ducks off the pond. Philadelphia-AL
out-hit Cincinnati for the game, 12 hits to 9.
The win went to Cy Young(12-24) who allowed 3 runs in 8 innings. Young was
helped out by Harry McIntire who recorded his 4th save. Christy
Mathewson(19-17) was the loser. He got hit pretty hard, allowing 11 hits and
3 walks in 7 and 1/3 innings.
