John Clarkson allowed Cap Anson to rest his bullpen, tossing a complete game
and Anson had 3 base hits and 3 RBI at Union Park where the Chicago White
Stockings beat the slumping St. Louis Maroons 7 to 5.

Chicago scored 3 runs in the 4th inning.  Both teams ended up with 10 hits on
the afternoon.  The winning pitcher was Clarkson(31-13) who allowed 5 runs
for the game. John Kirby(6-24) was the loser.  

Chicago continued their winnings ways improving their record to a league
leading 73-30.  They are 8-2 in their last ten games.  Not able to get much
going in recent weeks, St. Louis is 2-8 of late and now has an overall record
of 40-63.
