Blondie Purcell had 2 base hits and 4 RBI and Gus Weyhing had a complete game
as the potent Philadelphia Athletics defeated the St. Louis Browns by a score
of 11 to 2 at Jefferson St Grounds.

St. Louis found themselves trailing quickly as the Philadelphia bats came
through in the first inning plating 2 runs on 3 hits.  After an out was
recorded, Denny Lyons was the sparkplug when he doubled.  Harry Stovey
stepped into the batter's box and he slapped a base-hit.  Stovey took his
lead and swiped second.  After another out, Purcell came up and he laced a
one-base hit driving in two more baserunners.  Philadelphia finished with 12
hits in the victory.  

Weyhing(28-17) got the victory, allowing 2 runs for the game. Silver
King(24-22) absorbed the loss.  He got hit hard, allowing 12 hits and 4 walks
in 8 innings.
