Red Ames retired 15 batters on strikeouts as the New York Giants defeated the
pitiful St. Louis Cardinals 9 to 1 at Robison Field.

Ames(1-0) was tremendous on the mound for New York.  He didn't allow much,
just 5 hits and 2 walks in 9 innings.  New York had a total of 19 hits for
the game.  

Mike O'Neill(2-13) was the losing pitcher.  He was touched for 19 hits and 3
walks in 8 and 2/3 innings.  'Everything felt great' Ames said. 'I had a good
fastball, I felt I could throw it by everybody today.'
