Left fielder Buck Freeman hit 3 doubles and had 3 RBI at Huntington Ave Grnds
as the Philadelphia-AL Athletics beat the Boston-AL Americans by the count of
11 to 7.
Philadelphia-AL jumped on top of Boston-AL in the 5th inning scoring 2 runs
using 3 hits. Sammy Strang started the inning off right when he ripped a
base-hit. Freddy Parent stepped into the batter's box and he laced a
base-knock. Jake Beckley then laid down a sacrifice bunt. Freeman followed
next and he doubled driving in two more baserunners. Despite scoring in 5
separate innings, Boston-AL could not get the win.
Jock Menefee(6-7) got credit for the victory, pitching 5 and 2/3 innings and
allowing 4 runs. Menefee got relief help from Bucky Veil who gained credit
for his 3rd save. Joe McGinnity(17-21) was tagged with the loss. He got hit
pretty hard, allowing 17 hits and 3 walks in 9 innings.
