with Hess and the Detroit Tigers coming out on top of the Cincinnati Reds 3

Cincinnati surrendered all of the runs Detroit needed in the 4th inning when
they scored 3 runs on 3 hits. The critical plate appearance was by Ed
McFarland who quieted the crowd when he laced a one-base hit bringing in two
baserunners. Detroit had 9 hits for the afternoon while Cincinnati had 4.
Hess got relief help from Jesse Tannehill who gained credit for his 8th save.
