Bunk Congalton smacked 2 triples and had 3 RBI and Ed Walsh didn't allow a hit
until the 6th inning as the Detroit Tigers defeated the Chicago-NL Cubs 6 to
1 at Bennett Park.

Congalton provided much of the offense. He lined a base-hit which plated a
run in the 3rd inning, tripled knocking in a run in the 5th inning and
tripled bringing in a run in the 7th inning. Detroit rapped out 11 hits for
the afternoon.

Walsh(21-9) lasted until the end allowing 1 run for the win. The
right-handWalsh lost his chance for a no-hitter when Danny Hoffman tripled
with nobody out in the 6th inning. The losing pitcher was Ed Willett(0-1).
He was knocked around by Detroit, allowing 10 hits and 3 walks in 6 and 1/3
innings.

'Walsh took our guys to school' Lee Palmer said. 'Too bad he doesn't pitch for
us - it would make my job a whole lot easier!'
