Jeff Tesreau didn't allow a hit until the 7th inning and catcher Art Wilson
had 2 base hits and 2 RBI at Polo Grounds where the potent New York Giants
beat the Chicago Cubs by the score of 4 to 0.
Tesreau(14-6) was simply too much for the Chicago batters. He didn't allow
much, just 2 hits and no walks in 9 innings. The right-handed Tesreau lost
his no-hit bid when Joe Tinker singled with two outs in the 7th inning. Both
teams' bats went to sleep after the 3rd inning with no runs scored after that
point.
Lew Richie(16-9) was charged with the loss. He gave up 4 runs and 5 hits in 8
innings. Frank Chance lamented, 'Tesreau was really aggressive today. He
kept coming after our hitters. Heck, why not. he kept sitting our guys down
one after another - like so many bowling pins!'
