In a tight game it was the Pittsburgh Pirates 4, the Philadelphia Phillies 2
at Forbes Field.

Pittsburgh won the game with a rally in the 8th inning with 2 runs on 2 hits.
Hank Sauer got things going when he blasted a solo shot.  Mickey Vernon came
next and he laced a single.  Willie Jones then drew a walk.  After an out was
recorded, Luke Appling came up and he drew a walk to load the bases.  Dale
Mitchell came to the plate and hit a deep fly scoring the final run of the
inning.  Pittsburgh finished with 10 hits in the victory.  

Johnny Antonelli(2-0) allowed no runs in 1 inning, and picked up the victory.
Eddie Erautt recorded his 15th save.  Joe Hatten(3-7) took the loss in
relief.  He pitched 2/3 of an inning and surrendered 2 hits and 1 walk.
