Bob Elliott cracked a homer and Johnny Sain carried a no-hitter into the 6th
inning as the Cincinnati Reds outscored the Cleveland Indians 6 to
0.
Sain(9-16) dominated Cleveland hitters. He didn't allow much, just 1 hit and
2 walks in 9 innings seeing his ERA drop from 4.84 to 4.64. The right-handed
Sain had his no-hit bid broken up by Eddie Stanky who singled with one out in
the 6th inning. Cincinnati had 10 hits for the afternoon.
Mike Garcia(15-10) absorbed the loss. He allowed 8 hits and 2 walks in 5
innings. 'I've been working on a few things in my delivery, and I think I'm
hitting a good groove.' Sain said after the game. 'I'm ready to start
another game tomorrow!'
