The Boston Red Sox topped the Washington Nationals by the slimmest of margins, 7 to 6. The score was knotted at 4 after nine innings. Finally, Boston prevailed in the 10th inning. Pat Donahue got things going when he drew a walk. Larry Gardner stepped up to the plate and he lined a one-base hit. Harry Wolter then lofted a three-run 'big-fly' resulting in a mighty exciting win for Boston and the 8,263 home town fans in attendance. Although they lost, Washington did out-hit Boston 12 to 7. The win went to Larry Pape(3-0) who allowed 2 runs in 2 and 2/3 innings. Frank Oberlin(1-6) was hit with the loss in relief. Boston remained hot, improving their record to 80-56.
