Ted Williams had 4 hits and 2 RBI as the Cleveland Indians defeated the
Washington Nationals by the score of 5 to 2 at Griffith Stadium.

Washington fell behind quickly as the Cleveland offense came through in the
first inning with 3 runs using 4 hits. After an out was recorded, Jim Busby
kicked off the action when he doubled. After another out, Williams came up
and he ripped a base-knock plating a run. Joe Collins then doubled, and an
error was also committed, which accounted for two additional runs. That
early run support was all that Steve Gromek(6-8) required. Cleveland had 13
hits for the afternoon while Washington had 7.

Hoyt Wilhelm preserved the game for Gromek, recording his his 26th save. Don
